I'm trying to make a column out of metal - I can get the idea of it shown using loft and cuts, but I can't convert it to sheet metal in order to get the flat layout for fabrication. I tried using tangent arcs to trace over the shapes but it doesn't give me the right shape. Any idea how to get this to work as a sheet metal part? Ultimately I need to be able to create a flat pattern for each 'panel' in this column.
Jonn Boyce - Use the Lofted Sheet Metal feature to start. A couple of things, one your sketches need to remain open
Another thing to keep in mind when lofting.. keep the number of sketch points the same in both sketches...
I am able to get it to the point you show - but no further. I need to cut the column into additional parts/panels and flatten each one. Here is what i'm trying to make. The column has to be cut up into individual panels, and I need the flat layout for each panel so that it can be cut.
Then use the main sketch as your template and make the segments and just loft that portion
Each panel needs 2 sketches to create the lofted bend.
Convert the existing panel edges you have for the sheetmetal panels.
My example shows 4 panels created as sheetmetal.
Bear in mind lofted bends are just an approximation, they are not as exact as conventional press brake bends.

YES! beautiful! - I think i was able to follow it. You basically created an outline and lofted each piece individually. It's not in my language but hopefully I can still figure it out. Thanks so much!
