why are Solidworks software downloads so complicated?
why can't there be just a download button in front of different service packs?
Do you have an active license? If you have one, you can do it as you said....
yes i am on active subscription.I know of the options on the download page through the installation manager.
but i have had problems with it many times and keeps saying to retry download.
What part of the download is complicated?

I never found it complicated and had been using admin image for very long time now without any issues.
Deepak have you ever used the goengineer download link?
I've not used them but have seen those link. Those are basically images created (also know as ISO files) from the downloaded files.
I also create same thing for myself but using the image method, SW downloads only the required files and not gbs of files.
Yes Deepak I know what they are.I do prefer to download it from there.

That's a courtesy from them but I prefer creating my own image
the installation manager many times just refuses to download many times due to one issue or the other

I've only seen that issues only when having issues with my connection. And I never install while downloading but download first, make image and then install. This way I can specify the required settings before installation and those are stored in the image for next service pack/version and even if you've to reinstall
I've had a fair bit of trouble over the years, I gave up after a couple of failed installs. Now I just wait for SP5 and ask our VAR for an install that has SP5 integrated, they send a link to their server and that has solved the problem. They would also supply a USB stick if needed.
