We are upgrading from Solidworks 2016 to 2018 and need to update the license manager. How does anyone know how to update it?
From a 2018 DVD or download, you can install the 2018 license manager on your server.
You can use the "Server Installations" from the Installation Manager or double-click the setup.exe from the "swlicmgr" folder.
After the install, make sure you fire it up and activate it. That will pull 2018 licenses on to your server. If you see your licenses under the License Usage tab, then you are all set. If not, usually, you just need to Stop and Start the Service.
This is your first step in the upgrade. You can do it anytime since the 2018 licenses will support your existing 2016 installations.
The "License Administration" section of the Administration Guide has more detailed instructions:
Best to do the upgrade at a time when your users are not actively pulling the licenses, as they may get shut down if they can't reach the license server during the transition.
Hope this helps.
My adivice is Make sure that there is no borrowed license because it will give an error.
Thanks Xy Light
