Newbie- learning SW.

Running into a situation where a BOM is created and looks correct.   Later realized there was a typo in a part drawing  where the part number entered as a custom property - text, was typed wrong.  Most times, I update the text in the part and the change carries over to the BOM.  Lately, I've had a few anomalies I can't figure out.

1) I've edited some parts text and the change does NOT carry over to the BOM.  I've even tried opening the part from the BOM link and the field is correct in the part but no text change occurs in the BOM.  MY work around has been  to delete the part form the assembly and re-insert it, then the BOM picks up the text change.  IS there anyway to force the BOM field to update?

2)  I've had a few BOMS that when I move items up or down to organize like parts, the item numbers don't re-number themselves sequentially and remain at the item numbers they were at before the drag??  I've checked BOM properties and found nothing checked off that would cause the numbers to be anything other than sequential?
