Hi,
On many of our parts (single body or multi-body) I cannot create a weldment feature (in order to enter cutlist properties).
When I press the Weldment button, it becomes greyed out and no weldment feature has been added to the feature tree.
Anyone know of a solution to this problem?

It doesn't have to be a 3d sketch. I use weldments all the time, but use 2d sketches almost exclusively.
Very true, I was being general. My weldments generally live on 3D Sketches. All the same, some sketch should exist before trying to put members upon nothing.
We often use Weldment feature for parts that are not traditionally what you would consider 'weldments' (i.e not structural members) for the purpose of generation cutlist information for BOMs.
In any case, loading my coworkers solidworks settings appeared to (EDIT: temporarily) fix the problem.

So do I. See Using Plate in Weldments.
If loading another user's Settings from the Wizard, I recommend examining the applied File Locations to be sure that you don't have any references to their local resources which may not be available to you. If everything is networked commonly, then this is a non-problem.
I'm glad that it solved the issue for you, though. I know of no setting which obscures the Weldment feature. Now that I understand your issue better than before, I'd have suggested contacting your VAR for support earlier.

The weldment button does become grayed out as soon as you hit the button. If you aren't seeing that feature....then I don't know what is going on....
Hey guys, I have somewhat of a similar problem, or not I'm not sure, but I figure you guys could help me out. My weldment feature is greyed out when I switch configurations.

Well, I guess my weldment cut list updated on my drawings to show all of my parts so I guess that was all I really wanted.

The Weldment Feature by itself does not show anything. It only defines that this component may contain a Structural Member. Structural Members create Bodies, which can show.
