I want to offset this surface by 5 mm but it is not responding. What is the reason?
I can't open this on my current machine but it looks like you've selected Offset On Surface rather than Offset Surface. For the life of me, I can't find the option you've selected but if you selecte Offset Surface, I think it will solve.
I tried with both the edge and surface but the result is same.
Offset on Surface, as I discovered since I don't use Surfaces much, is a sketch tool. However, the "Offset Surface" tool (Insert > Surfaces > Offset Surface) worked just fine to offset one of the existing surfaces. If that's not what you want could you please explain what you're trying to accomplish? Then I'm sure someone will be able to help.
I want to offset this edge by 5mm or more but 1mm works more than 1mm gives trouble.
See my other post. I repaired the part file and attached it. The Loft feature was giving you some twist since it doesn't have guide curves and the Evaluation Tool -> Check shows that the minimum radius of curvature is 1mm. This is why you can't exceel 1mm in your offset. Fix the Loft and you can proceed with what you want to do with the Edge Offset.
After more investigating, the Loft still adds issue to this and I'm trying to figure out why. Perhaps a Boundary Surface would be better?
Alex,,, I couldn't get it to go more than 2mm with a straight up Surface Extrude.
I just tried that exact same thing. The only thing I can think of is that the equation driven curve breaks down after 2mm. I can't really figure out what's causing it.
Spline On Surface does not offset more than 3 mm.
I discovered that you didn't have any guide curves in your loft feature. This was causing the resulting surface to have some twist in it. I added the guide curves and applied them. Now you can offset the edge as a 3D sketch or you can offset the entire surface.
Edit: After taking a closer look, repairing the Loft feature did not fix this.
It does seem like it should work Maha.. But for some odd reason it does not.. I could get 2mm without splitting the surface but I did have to rearrange the connectors on you loft a bit to do that. When I split the surface.
Maha,.. it's possible but your mroc (min radius of curvature) is ~5... so, that is cutting it close! I used a Ruled Surface and Offset 5mm (image/file attached)
Is it possible to offset this curve by more than 1 mm? More than 1 mm does not come.
...I'm not surprised it does not work.. and why I suggested Ruled Surface and Offset.
..using Tools/Sketch Tools/Offset On Surface.... is inconsistent.. and personally, I do NOT trust it.

No no not YouTube video. Just experimenting with different and rarely use tool by me.
