hi guys I have this piece right here that I want to learn how to model in solid works just the top section. I was thinking of extruding the top section and drafting the extruded cylinder then doing some type of swept cut but I dont know how to approach it and quite stuck. Here is the picture of the model and here is a screen shot of my solidworks model part.
Also my second question was in figuring out how to use "hold wizard" and extrude a thread. I wanted the bottom portion to be threaded but for some reason it gives me an error and says I can only cut into the threads not extrude them ?
I am not sure what I am doing wrong to NOT have the threads extruded ? I just made the diameter longer so it matches the outside of the threads but for further use it would help to understand why I cannot extrude?
Hi Varun,
Some basic concepts need to be accepted by yourself here in regards to how you model and how things are manufactured in real life. With regards to your threads on the bottom half, you need to cut these into the model as threads are cut into material in the real world. I've no doubt that you could indeed extrude threads if you really wanted to, but it is very unconventional.
As for modelling the top part (above the nut/hexagon), this could probably be achieved with a profile sweep along a tapered coil path.
Dave.
