Here is an example: If you apply a factor of 0.5 to a yield strength stress limit of 2000 psi, Factor of Safety Wizard uses 0.5 x 2000 = 1000 psi for the stress limit.

I had gone through the example which you have mentioned in your reply. In that example multiplication factor is being used to modify the limit of yield strength stress. But, what if i just want to keep the materials yield strength as it is (multiplication factor =1) (because in that case i am getting FS=120 for my model ) . Why do we have to change the limit of yield stress of the material??

Well, the multiplication factor is simply used to multiply the stress limit in order to increase or to lower the limit.
It depends on the technical specifications you have.Regards,
