Thanks all for the replies.
The cut and paste kind of works as Dennis and Peter suggested, but you have to select all parent views as well. So I had an idea, I copied and pasted the layout to a new sheet and moved the views I didn't want off the page, thus keeping the parent still active. Then back to the original and moved the detail view off the page. This gave me the result I was looking for. GA on page one and details on subsequent pages. This has the added benefit of copying all of the title block details at the same time so you don't have to type out dwg number, title and ref again.
Thanks guys
Mark
As Philip Chambers said, you can move a section view (or detail view) from one sheet to another by clicking on it in the tree and dragging and dropping it on the sheet name of the sheet you want it on. I do it all the time. There's no need to duplicate views and move them off the sheet.
Still stuck with SW2015 here, but I was able to drag the section view to a different sheet in the tree.
Or select the section view on the sheet and cut and paste to another sheet without the need to move the original too.

Soo.... Just to make sure we're all on the same page. What do you mean by "layout"? Do you mean a different sheet of the same .slddrw file, or a different drawing file? You can't put a section view onto a different drawing without its parent. But, as Glenn said, you can move views easily from sheet to sheet within the same drawing file by dragging and dropping in the feature tree. The only additional thing to note is that you can only drag views in the feature tree that are on the currently active sheet.
