is it sw 2018 sp3 files could open by sw 2017 sp5?
i mean: is it sw 2018 sp3 files could opened by sw 2017 sp5?
If I am understanding you correctly, you CANNOT open files created by a newer version in an older version.
For example, SW2017 will not open SW2018 files.
Newer versions WILL however open older version files. So, SW2018 will open SW2017 files.
If that's what you were asking?
See Why am I getting a "Future Version" error when I try to open a File?
SOLIDWORKS 2017 SP5 will open a SW 2018 file but ONLY as a sort of viewer. You won't be able to make changes to the file but you will be able to see the part. Not sure if that is what you mean or if you are expecting to be able to edit the part as normal (which you won't be able to).
Yes... i still believe to that concept .... that new version of SW could be opened by previous SW ( 1 step version below ) with service pack 5.
The last case when i was open sw 2013 file with sw 2012 sp.5, i could see the part / assembly without able to edit it, except move the part in assembly..
But now, i have a problem to open sw18 sp3 files ( part/assembly ) with sw17 sp.5.
The tree was show parts & assembly...but nothing in display view, .......invisible !
The only solution is convert that sw18 files to step/parasolid/iges...bla..bla..bla.... then opened by sw17.
Yeah....i am already know it. That was a primitive issue, and i hope we always avoid it & will NOT happens (again) when we use between sw18-sw17 or with another newer version.
But it's happens again ..
So.... are we sure that sw18 sp3 files could be opened by sw17 sp5 only a tree, but invisible in view-area ..??
(1) If yes, hopeless... do the primitive way
(2) if not, maybe my template setup was wrong
Which is the correct , point (1) or point (2) ...??
Hi Budi Setiawan Setiawan so sorry to share such PRIMITIVE knowledge, i just thought anyone who is going through your post might find this useful, but anyways i have opened the file made in SW2018 SP3.0 in SW2017 SP5.0 and it opened without any hassle.
Seems like there is template or graphics related issue.
Hi Sumit Rana,
If you had opened file made in SW2018 SP3.0 in SW2017 SP5.0 and it opened without any hassle.... it's mean something wrong with my workstation.
- maybe hardware : graphic related issue
- maybe software : setup template issue
According to my standard engineering PC : HP z240 workstation... i guess my hardware is ok ( just my opinion )
So... i will try to reset my template to the SW-default and make update on graphic-driver........see what will it going on.
thanks a lot
@Craig Girvan is correct you can only only see the files but you can't change it. It will just be a graphical representation and you won't be able to change it. However you can export the file from 2018 into step, iges or parasolid format and you will be able to see it in 2017 sp5.0 (their won't be any features)
