Hi all,
We have models where we use a lot of HSS weldments (tens of thousands). We need to have the fillets modeled on the section profiles in the individual parts, however a simplified configuration (without fillets) could be used when opening the whole assembly to make the model lighter.
1. With good hardware, how much of a difference would that make on the model load times/responsiveness? If the expected performance improvements are marginal, adding simplified configurations is probably not worth the trouble.
2. If it is worth it, what would be the easiest way to create simplified configurations, where all weldment fillets are removed? We looked at several ways:
a. The simplify utility, but it is for FEA prep and does not seem to work for weldments.
b. Delete face. Works well but all fillets have to be selected, so not practical.
c. Picking a profile with no fillets in the weldment feature and applying it to the simplified configuration. However it seems that this only works for profiles generated from the same seed sketch (so you cannot remove fillets as a radius cannot be zero).
d. Adding another weldment feature with a simplified profile and suppressing/unsuppresing the two depending on the configuration. This works but has to be done for each weldment feature.
Is there a better way than option d?
Thanks!
