Got a question on how do you guys manage your "soft" part in Solidworks.

By "soft" I mean the same part (same drawing number) with different geometry and used in multiple assembly.

For example :

     - Belleville washers. We got a part number by size. But in the assembly, the designer need to load the Belleville stack, this will change the geometry.

     - A specific tube or cable. It got his own part number and can be used in a lot of assembly. But it will never be the same geometry.

     - Same problem for O-ring (radial, axial, different grooves), clamps ...

We don't want to copy the part, or to modify it (this will break other assemblies).

We are using SW/PDM pro with a good part and drawing number and revision management as well as a library folder (in read only)

We could use configurations, but this will be painful some time. In context mates can be used to but I don't known how it behave in a multi assembly usage.

How do you do this ?

(I hope I've been clear enough.)
