Hello, is it possible to download photoview 360 appearances, other than the preloaded ones ? I am running SW 2018 and I read on forums about downloading lxo files but it seems it is not available any more.
The Luxology Modo Photoview Assets are still available.
You need to log on to your Customer Portal Account and you will see the PhotoView 360 appearances link under the download section
There is a video on this old post which shows how to access and use.
The appearances have been moved to the Share Tab on the The Foundry Community site
Rendering with Modo Materials in PhotoView 360 – SolidWorks 2013 #SolidWorks #PhotoView360 #Modo | Michael Lord
Have you used any modo assets recently because I'm on the 2020 version and have tried multiple assets that show as just blank? This is very frustrating because I don't want all the work I've put into these models to be wasted because the renders look like crap. Any advice or help is appreciated
First my apologies for the delayed response. I appeared not to be getting notifications!
Just trying a few now to test and it is not much different from before.
Some work, some don't and you only see that when you run Photoview Preview. It appears that some which did work no longer work and just stay blank. I haven't downloaded any for a while.
Some are adjustable, some are not.
I have a few favorites I use, such as Rust Metal,
Unfortunately I don't have much more than that! except trial and error
Hi, The decision of moving to MODO assets for Photo View 360 is showing us, that Solid Works doesn't want to support Photo View 360 anymore. The amount of the appearances available in MODO is poor for models like liquids or plastics. I am under the strong impression, that Solid Works wants us to get Visualize and that is why they are making everything possible to make the use of Photo View 360 as difficult as possible.
MODO appearances aren't fully compatible with PV360 and therefore we can't amend their functionality. Utterly rubbish idea of throwing all the functionality away.
Visualize is very expensive and not everyone needs such a powerful tool for the purpose of just simple rendering.
We need our assets back for PV360!

Visualize Standard is free for customers with active subscription.
Many of our customers like the "new" Visualize very much, because they can achieve very good results in a small amount of time. What I like the most is the WYSIWYG interface and the super-fast rendering. Chrome, Glas end other appearances are looking much better without the need to tweak tons of parameters.
Just my 2 cents.
Take a look at this thread to see, what users can do with Viz:
Visualize rendered content
Are you sure about Visualize being free? Not all subscriptions have it for free. I have a standard version with subscription and Visualize is not included. I had trial version and I I have to admit, it is really nice software. however, not for free.
Visualize Standard, is free for users with SOLIDWORKS Professional license on active subscription. Your reseller can provide you Visualize standard serial number.
If you have PV360, then you likely have SOLIDWORKS Professional license. Since PV360 is not included in SW Standard license.
That said, there can be an exception to this with some very OLD licensing models, where one could purchase SW and PV360 separately, which is somehow still supported in a grandfathered way. You'll have to ask your IT, admin or reseller to clarify how you have SW/PV licensed.
Okay. As Ron Bates said: Most users with PV360 have a SWX Prof. or Prem. license. Only a small percentage have bought it seperately or have the old "Office" or "Office Prof." bundle.
I have not found any issue... (tested only minutes ago):
The idea is to be able to change the appearance's options, For example: I am trying to render a plastic bottle filled with honey. With original files it worked or at least I could find a way around. With Modo you can't edit appearance properties.
This was a limitation right from the start, when the modo appearances were supported.
Yes, but there is no choice now. We have our original appearances, which come with the SW and modo as additional. There is no official place, where users are sharing fully functional Photo View 360 appearances (unless I am not aware of one).

yep.. we need the modo material editor. (carrot on a stick)
I can't have Visualize. My license is standard.
Anyway, this doesn't resolve the issue with pushing Photo View 360 aside by Solid. Modo appearances are great, but not fully compatible with PV360.
Is there any way that I can create any material I want?
You could purchase modo. They have a rental option as well now which makes it more financially friendly.
