Equation in Assembly - 'Syntax Incorrect'

I have an assembly template in which I have a Custom Property called 'DrawingMass' and an equation that turns the SW-Mass property into a number of kg.

This all works happily - most of the time.

Today, I made an assembly model of a robot, based on downloaded models from the manufacturer's website.

For whatever reason, it's not important, the assembly model ended up without any of my Custom Properties, so I copied and pasted them from a blank assembly.

I then created the equation in the new robot assembly and saw this:

The only difference I can see between the usual assemblies I create and this one is that I used 'override mass properties' to set the mass of the robot assembly to the correct value, rather than assigning materials to individual parts of the robot.

Is this correct behaviour? Does overriding mass properties somehow render my working syntax incorrect?

Any ideas?
