I am trying to pattern the ring (torus) in the picture below around the 3D sketch [so that the ring is always normal to the sketch] but I am receiving an error that "all segments of the profile must be tangential and they should be of one contour only" when I go to select the 3D sketch as my pattern direction.
The 3D sketch is a composite of a spiral/helix and a small 3D arc on either side. The end goal is a spiral-based curve with 10 rings evenly spaced along the entirety of the curve each also tangential to the curve.
Thanks in advance for the help.
Your 3D sketch contains segments and thus is not one continuous contour. Creating a composite curve won't resolve this as I don't think your helix segments are truly tangent. Typically you would create a body on the helix itself with a sketch plane tangent to its end. You could try using the segment tool to create points along your 3D sketch helix and then use a point driven pattern. if the math proves difficult, take your overall length and divide it evenly by creating sketch planes. place a point in the sketch and add a pierce relation to the 3D sketch then try to pattern that way.
