A sketch line is indeed the way to do it. I use a
construction line that is perpendicular to an edge, then dim from
that line, not the end point of the line, to the center of the
other boss. This holds the dim perpendicular to that sketch line,
or parallel to the bottom tube.
OK, so it works both ways. I like the centerline idea because
it's cleaner but I like the ease of the "align with edge" option.
The edge option puts my dimension text on the end of a leader, now
how do I get rid of that?
Do you mean aligning the text to the dimension line? IIRC,
ANSI doesn't allow for that (unfotunately), but you can override
it. Either in the document properties, or in the properties for
each individual dimension, look for "dimension display" and poke
around in the options there. I can't tell you exactly where,
because this changed in 09, and I'm stuck on 07.
I just noticed this thread was posted in the eDrawings forum. Is
this an eDrawings question?
oops, no, it's a solidworks 2009 question. Sorry for the
wrong location on the post. Dunno how that happened.
I'm not talking about the text alignment, I'm talking about
rotating the dimension. to align with something else. In this case,
I'm designing a bicycle, the drawing shows the bottom bracket, seat
tube, and downtube. The dimension in question must provide a center
to center length between the bottom bracket and swing arm pivot
while being parallel to the seat tube. Does that make sense? I've
tried sketches and several other things and even had a solidworks
reseller tell me it's not possible but I don't believe him since
Co-create, inventor, and autocad can do it.
