I am saving a large solidworks assembly as STEP 203 files.  I am using Large Assembly Mode, I have done a pack and go to save the assembly to my terminals hard drive instead of the network and have shut down every program except solidworks.

The solidworks screen is now a light gray and giving me a message that 'solidworks 2017 is not responding'.

It has done this for the past five assemblies I have done this for, but after several hours a finished STEP file has popped out.

1) Is there a way I have missed to speed up this process?

2) Is there a way to tell if Solidworks is actually doing anything or has locked up completely?

If the answer to #2 is no, it might be something worth considering for a later release.  This is a common problem when working with large, complex assemblies.
