HHello, I am stuck with this sphere model,help is needed to model the internal of the Sphere

hello, I am stuck with this specific model, despite repeated attempts I am unable to model the internal of the Sphere. A little background I am 3 month old user of solidworks and preparing for CSWA, during the course of my prep I downloaded a few practice model from internet, however I got stuck with this particular model with respect to modelling inside the sphere. It would be a great help if i could learn the ropes to do so

a side note; the dimensions in the solidpart are not as per drawing as during multiple tries i kinda let them loose to focus on the technique

There are no sweeps involved. It is simple extrude boss, cut extrude, and revolve features. To make the sphereical cut with the two flats seen best from the cross section and top views a multi body modeling technique with a combine (Subtract Boolean) feature can be employed. Hope this helps.

There is one missing dimension - the height in cross section of the counterbore like feature. In my model it is the feature dimensioned 42mm from the base. Otherwise all of the dimensions are present.

Hello,

Post some screen shots, including the tree, so we can assess your workflow and your progress.

To make the flats inside the sphere, create this sketch on the central plane and cut 70mm in each direction.
This will make the flat surfaces required for the bores (modelled on one side and then mirrored).

Here's how I would do it.

I would create a sphere with a revolution.
Do a shell on the sphere
Do a revolution for the base
extrude to get the desired shape of the base
Hole pattern for the base
extrude to open the spherical part.
another extrude to do the flat faces inside the sphere.
two hole patterns for the holes required in the open sphere

Mather For your time, I am uploading The Solid part file through google drive for your review, Further the main issue i am having is modelling the curve at the top end as shown with yellow oval in the attached pic and general shape inside the sphere, which i believe has been made through use of two different sweeps , which i believe is evident by line highlighted by Blue oval

and I forgot to add that some where in between multiple tries i abandoned the dimensions as per drawing so that i can focus on getting the technique right.

thank you for taking the time to review my question, I did try the shell route but the problem remains getting the desired profile inside sphere, plus how does one extrude inside a sphere shell, further as u can see from yellow oval the sphere has variable thickness (yellow oval) and different revolve cut profiles (Blue Oval).

Hello,

I believe the blue oval is where the inside of the sphere transitions to a cylinder with a diameter that's tangent to the sphere.
The yellow is the junction of the outer sphere with the flat surface for the bores.

Hello Adeer,
The sphere has the same thickness everywhere, it is the extrusion that makes a planar face inside the sphere that causes it to seem less thick.

About the blue one, and keep in mind I'm guessing here, I think you're having a hard time positioning it in order to get the chambering. From a quick look in it, I believe the depth of the middle chamber isn't identified. I could be wrong tough.

Start with your sphere and base.

then sketch on right plane. Put in the circles one in the center (radius of 60) and the two that will make the outside curves (radius of 80). Add extra lines outside of the main sphere section.

Trim everything away so you have the outline of the section that you need

Then extrude cut both directions thru all

There you go.

I've relooked over it and there aren't dimensions lacking, it's probably been badly dimensionned intentionally to know if you're logical enough to be able to figure out these dimensions.

Hello,

I wouldn't state it's a lack of dimensions because the blue line appears to be a tangent line.
To get tangency between the cylinder and the inside sphere, the cylinder diameter must be equal to the diameter of the inside sphere.
Basically it's a hemisphere on the end of a cylinder (upside down).

What is unclear is that is cylindrical at the inside sphere's center. A top view would clarify this.

I have to agree with the reply Alex Lachance made to this statement.
Remember, it's not just a straight modelling exercise-click here...click there.

Dimensions basically only provide a scope of size to what you're looking at.
Learn to analyze all of the views, the geometry, the features and the dimensions. And how they're interrelated.

Don't fall prey to "they left something out" as your default reaction. Catch yourself when this happens.
Instead make it, "What am I missing?" And then revisit your analyses of the situation.

Yes, sometimes, something is left out. But more often than not, it's you not connecting the dots.

No problem. Its fun to model parts like that. They are challenging, but not impossible. Usually when I cant model something its cause I am making it to complex. Sometimes taking a step back and re-thinking the approach is needed. Good luck with your SolidWorks exam.
