Does anyone have a different solution other than the ones already discussed in this forum? (file is too large to upload)
Olivia,.. here's what I have (it's at DropBox)... I ended up doing what Ruben Balderrama did using 2018 "Enable 3D Interconnect" then export it as a Parasolid and re-import to 2014.

You probably need to ask help from your Value Added Reseller。
Upload your file
When I uploaded and you got this one
I will try to fix it for you (68 Surfaces and 122 Solids parts)
I have added to link to my original post with the file.
Hello Ruben,.. yeah, for 2018,.. it looks like "Enable 3D Interconnect" has fewer fragments or more complete bodies... if you then export it as a Parasolid and re-import.. it becomes smaller and more manageable (imho)
This doesn't seem to have half the error I got. Some of the surfaces that are visible in your image are missing in my import.
You can upload on Dropbox, Google Drive, etc. and share link here.
Is the file from here?

Will the IGES format work for your needs?
Have you contacted the file's source to see if the model is no good?
Yes! I also tried the IGES format but have way too many import errors and not enough solid bodies. I need solid bodies for my need and I have not been able to edit the IGES format. The source of the file seem to have no errors.
Hello Olivia,.. unfortunately this will not create all solid bodies.. it creates a mix of about 169 surface and 107 solids.. and that is after cleaning it up in Rhino3D...
Thank you for trying. Are there any intersecting components in your version? If not would it be possible to get a copy. I can't seem to fix that in my IGES version. I can't even thicken a surface, I get errors for every attempted edit.
What are you actually trying to do with this model? Why do you need solids? It's a very complex but purchased part. If you need for plant layout, who cares if it's surfaces? If you're trying to reverse-engineer it, or modify it, design accessories/add-ons, or see if it fits in some really tight space, find out the mass/CG/radius of gyration, etc. I wouldn't trust the geometry off some random website.
I work with a lot of purchased parts and I try to turn them in solids if possible because they seem to be less demanding for SolidWorks. I don't know why but most imported surfaces are choppy for me.
Ok,.. let's step back here... because, like you, I also receive the same error?...
In this case.. the issue I believe is with how it was originally exported and how we import it.
so, what I found is,.. first.. this STEP file comes from SolidWorks 2014.. .and I have 2014.. so, it should import just fine.... but, no?
With imports you can do a few things to get data in with fewer issues...
The normal way is just to open the STEP.. (and we know this gives us a error... so eff that idea)
Next, is to "Import" the STEP!... (it works well when you know it is a Part file.. will not import Assemblies)
... please follow these steps... (let me us know how it goes?)
Start a New Part - (suggest, using ONLY the Default Template)
Then,.. Insert/Features/Imported - "Options" (see settings attached); select STEP file.. (import)
(also/note: use import settings shown below)
I just tried these steps with no luck . I didn't get the message "no solid bodies found " but nothing showed up. It might be time to accept that I will not be able to make any changes.
Is your Messages/Error/Warning filled with messages to not show again? This could be one of the cause. See screenshot below for reference
I don't know about everyone else but I like to keep this list as short as possible. I don't like when SolidWorks does something without me consenting to it.
No I'm not receiving but this is definitely information that will com in handy later. Thank you!
I will not be able to view this until later but I will update you as soon as I can. Also I just got Solid Works 2017 not sure if it matters considering I am getting the same errors.
This is working perfectly, I am able to make some small improvements. Thank you so much for being so patient and so helpful
Hello Olivia,.. glad it worked out!... and yeah,.. it's too bad that data like this,.. which I'll guess came from Pro/e (or Catia?).. and i'm sure was good when it was released,... get's muckdup over time..
Retrieving data ...
