Graphics card? Certified graphics card driver?
Environment? Self-managed or IT department controlled? Network file locations or local disk?
Windows 7 Enterprise
Processor: Intel Core i7-6820HQ CPU @ 2.7 GHz
Ram: 16.0 GB
Graphics card: AMD FirePro W5170M
IT department controlled
File locations on local disk
That ruled out some suggestions, and leaves me only with "IT department controlled" because this is abnormal - not a typical fail.
Without further info, I assume that your PC has some other process running which doesn't get along with SWx and Sleep. Involve your IT department to manage other items, such as updates to other software, unnecessary background processes, PUPs or malware, inspection of logs to determine what needs removed or disabled, or such.
If none of those work, here's what I'd do. This does not address the cause, but rather the behavior.
Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Power Options
(*) High Performance -> Change plan settings
Make sure it is set to never go to sleep or turn off display so you don't have to log back in. Display: never, Sleep: never.
