Use the Design Study tool with optimization
Like Janko Stellaard mentions, you can optimize your sheet metal thickness using Optimization in a Design Study. You would create a parameter attached to the sheet metal thickness then use this parameter as a variable in an Optimization study. This video showed a more in depth explanation of the steps to setup the Static Study, then the Design Study/Optimization (GoEngineer - Simulation: Setup a Structural Optimization Study).
Also, I have worked up a simple example of a Design Study/Optimization and attached here which optimizes the thickness of my sheet metal component in order to get an exact deflection from the design given the loading.

off topic but that doesn't look like a perfectly optimum design to me. But yes doing something to "bridge" a corner if possible will help keep thickness down for a given load. But the OP was asking how to optimize thickness only, not how to redesign the part.
