Cuts vs holes in sheet metal

From another thread, it was mentioned that cuts and holes do not respond the same way in sheet metal.


I use cuts all the time in models so that many cuts can be edited at one time from the sketch perspective.


What advantage does a hole have over a cut? In specific when it comes to downstream operations like bolt patterns, flat pattern drafting, etc.


It will take me about 5 years to get the sheet metal documented at this company, then I will start doing assemblies. So I will not see some of the downstream effects for many years.


I just spent 4.5 years i solid works, and was about half done with the sheet metal there. Most of the time is spent because the target moves with many custom products and 100 "standard" products.
