I'm in the process of setting up PDM standard with SW2017
I kept getting the error message while previewing files from the local VaultView - see att. image
it would appear that you have edrawings 2015 installed as your viewer. double check what you have installed and where PDM is looking for the viewer.
I have all eDrawing installed up to 2018
since you have multiple version of edrawings installed, you need to make sure you have PDM looking at the correct version to view your newer files.
How to have this setup?
you will need to speak to your vault administrator. if that is you, check the help files or your VAR - I am not the vault admin here, so I can't get to the setting to show you.
Did not check for PDM Standart, but I think what shall not differ.
I have no problems with viewing in PDM 18sp2 EDravings of files Solidworks of version 2014.
It is possible to try to reset even in Settings of the Administration PDM user/group settings of the Menu - Display. But it can give nothing.
It is possible to eat also other decisions, but I managed and to solve not once a similar problem only one method - all previous installations of EDrawings shall be deleted, and not only from the folders Program Files/Program Files (86), Program Data, Comon Files, User/AppData/Local and Roaming. Also, it is necessary to delete all related records and sections in Registry (it is better manually - but them much).
Before it is desirable to make backup copies of registry and/or restore point of system (especially if there is no experience in this case).
After installation of the latest version of Edrawings - on a disk there shall not be several folders with EDrawings in Program Files and the location of installation shall correspond to specified. If it not so, means in the register not everything is cleaned, there are same problems can be also with SolidWorks - when there are many traces of the previous installations. For this reason I do not use multiple installations of versions SolidWorks.
After that problems shall not be. I wish you good luck.
You suggestion is to uninstall all the old eDrawing versions?
Jake Bakerin, This is usually caused by your latest eDrawings install not registering with Windows correctly.
This means as far as Windows is concerned the version of eDrawings that should be used for previewing is 2015, hence the error.
To fix this run a repair of eDrawings 2018 within your user account (you will need Administrative permissions).
eDrawing is part of the SW. You mean I need to run SW repair?
Yes, but you will only need to repair the eDrawings product from the list of installed products.
However check if you have any versions of eDrawings that are installed separately, you could probably uninstall these!
What year is your PDM?
I have 2018 installed but am testing now with 2017
EDIT: still using wPDM with 2017
If I correctly understood, there were many different installations and different versions of programs.
It is only possible to hope that they were executed under the same user, and during installations there were no problems.
I think that it is improbable that simply it turned out to recover EDrawings, at the same time it is not important as it to do, through standard installation / restoration of SolidWorks or directly of the EDrawings folder.
Even if the user has the rights of the administrator, it not always guarantees the required level of the rights for change of some folders or sections of registry.
I personally in similar cases never managed to recover EDrawings without complete deleting all versions, manual deleting all folders and cleaning of registry.
And automatic cleaning of regisry can only complicate a situation if only the line containing "EDrawings" instead of deleting a branch of registry is deleted.
And manual cleaning is not one hundred, and even one thousand values for what being required huge patience.
For myself I found compromise option - at first deleting in registry of all EDrawings values, and then deleting all errors in each section registry. For this purpose I use Reg Organizer.
Before all this, surely I make a backup copy of registry, restore point of system and/or I try on the cloned system in the Virtual machine.
After that I install only the latest version.
For myself I did not find other real method (if there are no points of rollback of system).
I do not guarantee, but about 5-6 times the result was the positive.
If there are simpler decisions - me interesting too.
I wish you good luck.
