I seem to have a disastrous drop in 2D drawing performance since the windows update and also I can no longer produce PDF copies of my drawings they come out with lines missing, in 2016 SP5.
Also the same issue in 2017 pdfs have similar issues with missing lines. I have managed to produce decent PDF output by opening a pack and go of the assembly and drawing in 2018.
I find 2016 is gradually becoming unusable, particularly the 2D drawings. Its like I'm being forced to update - which will force me out of step with the Germans I am collaborating with. Maybe my German colleagues have locked their windows updates out...
For your issue, try opening in safe mode via solidworks rx.. This loads with no add ins. That might get you past the crash.
Same issue here. will open solid models and assemblies. but when opening drawings, drawing opens, then crashes.
Tried uninstalling update. no help
Tried rolling back video driver to previous driver. no help
tried installing video drive suggested by Solid works for my video card. no help
When running solid works RX. Video card is not seen by solid works RX. It says I have Intel(r) hd graphics.
will open drawing files in both safe modes (open GL and bypass tools options)
solid works 2016 ( I have 2018, but never installed)
Dell precision 3620
I7-7700 3.6 ghz
16 gig ram
NVidia Quadro k1200
You can undo the Windows Update..............
Also change your settings so that Windows does not update automatically.........
It seems the recent windows update disabled a lot of Nvidia graphics cards.
Use device manager, find display adapters and right click on your graphics card to check it is "enabled". It could be as simple as that.
Next, it might have auto updated to a non SW approved driver, check its driver against the ones listed by solidworks Graphics Card Drivers | Hardware & System Requirements | SOLIDWORKS
You can install the right one over a more recent issue uncertified one.
Gordon..Thanks for the help.
Seems that both the NVidia display adapter and the Intel Hd graphics adapter were enabled.
I disabled the intel adapter and thinks work great now.
I hope maybe this info helps others at some point.
I had to call my VAR yesterday on another subject and he said to check the video card was enabled after the last windows update. We found this issue on two of our three machines. They had a lot of calls about graphics issues last few days.
