If I'm mating two parts and I select one face and then hide
that component so that I can get to the other one, when I click the
second face for the mate, the first selection is cleared out. This
happens every time I hide a part during the mating process.
I haven't found a work-around and it's not a huge problem, but I just wanted to bring it to SW attention (if they are reading
). I actually wanted to submit a SR, but I can't figure out how so
if anyone can help with either the mating issue or submitting an
SR, I'd appreciate it. Thanks!

Although I do agree that there are many methods for selecting items for the purpose of mating, why is "hiding" a component unacceptable?
Now if Angela were "suppressing" the component, I could see where the selection would be removed because the part is no longer in memory. However, "hiding" is supposed to be graphical only, therefore it should work and if it did, it would be just one more method to use.
But if the component/s are hidden, and the software is selecting these faces in the select other, how will you know what they are to? Wouldn't it just cause more confusion?

What would be the reason to want to hide an entire component during the mating process?
Not necessarily. Not right away.
So that the entire component is out of the picture, allowing selection of what is underneath.
Why all the questions?
Angela is looking for an answer.

Once again there are many ways of doing things so the question remains; "Why doesn't it work?"
Like I said before, the action of "hiding" is graphical only, kind of like an interrupt command, therefore it should work.
To prove my point, open an assembly and turn on your dimensioning tool, then select a face of a component. Next, RMB on the same face of the same component and choose Hide. Finally, select another surface of a different component and place the dimension.
Does this work or doesn't it?
I rest my case.

I cannot believe I never knew that. That makes the whole "Select Other" option so much more useful!!
Thank you.
The work around that I have been using was to RMB on the part, hide it, select the hidden face, then using the flyout FM show the part and select the second face. Using the flyout FM does not reset the face already selected.
I agree with Angela and Daniel. I have used isolate in the past but using the RMB and hiding the surfaces I think will be handier.
Oh the wonderful things you learn by reading these forums.

Thanks, I cannot believe that I never knew about the power of "select other". What a great great tip. I'm still stuck on SW 2005 and it even works for me in this ancient version. 4 years I've used that command and never knew a second RMB would clear the next face. Suddenly the the cloud is lifted and the command becomes much more useful.
