We recently upgraded from SW2016 SP2 to SW2017 SP5 using an administrative image. On two machines, when starting SOLIDWORKS for the first time, the activation attempt fails with the following message:
The only difference between these two machines and the other 12 that activated successfully is the user that installed the software. On the successful machines, I logged in (via Remote Desktop), performed the install and started SOLIDWORKS for the first time. On the failed machines, the users installed the software (seemingly successfully) but receive the above error message when trying to start SOLIDWORKS.
I have checked the permissions on the server for the <admin image location>\64bit\logs directory and the users have read/write access there:
Does anyone have any insight on further troubleshooting for this problem?
With the help of my VAR, I was able to get around the problem by deleting a registry entry (Auto File) from two locations:
This is just a workaround because it will cause the activation wizard to start when you start SOLIDWORKS. The activation is supposed to happen silently in the background when using an admin image.
