Check in revision option of Read from File

I was just wondering if anybody has used the revision opition of "Read from File"? I am setting up PDM works for our very busy engineer and he was asking what exactly that option does when he is checking in a file.

Anybody please advice.
I can't find any references to it in the help files.

Does is mean that it checks in the saved file rather than the changed part you are working on in Solid works?

When saving a file in PDM Workgroup, the file revision will get bumped-up by one increment when being saved in the vault. If you have made a change but do not want that incrementing to take place, "Read from File" will save it at the current rev level instead.
