I'm not sure what's changed here, but I'd like to know how to fix it.

The units for the measurements shown in the status bar are set in the measure dialog. The status bar even shows dual units for measurements if you set it to dual units in the measure dialog. My guess is that you had custom units selected in there and set to inches.

Really clutching at straws here but a couple of things come to mind....
1) Have you entered a dimension somewhere and accidently used (")? Given that your template is metric, your system would automatically convert the measurement entered to millimetres but I wonder if in the background it would invoke the glitch you have? (Fat Finger Syndrome)
2) Is your current part derived from anything? (I did say I was reaching......)
It's been like this all weekend, and first thing this morning, but now it's fixed itself... I didn't do anything!
Did you reboot the system or log in and out of SW?
Yep I did all the above multiple times, plus I switched to Imperial and back to metric, resaved my parts,,, everything I could think of. Nothing worked, but then it did

That makes sense. I took some measurements this morning, which must have been what fixed the problem
