What i'd suggest:
- Get latest versions on all files you need access to.
- Check out files you need to edit
- Go offline.
When coming back
- Go online
- Perform search to add all Local files (all new files saved to PDM will be local)
- Check in everything
As an emergency/backup solution you still have VPN. Just make sure your server can be reached through VPN.
Yes it's correct, I did it a long time ago with SW2012 version do not test it on SW2018 but there should not be any problems.
The office PC should be on for synchronization but it is actually done instantly (Maybe you should buy space in Dropbox because it has limits the free version)
But a secure way and in which was full life cycle was PDM remote version I do not remember which one, ask to VAR maybe can assist you with that.
There is only one thing about Dropbox (the security of your files) in my case we use remote PDM because the cost of the project was a few millions and there was a confidentiality contract with that.
Hi, I would personally never recommend that anyone use Dropbox with PDM.
I think Martin detailed the steps correctly.
Another option that is fairly inexpensive is using MS Azure and putting your vault up there. When at your desk it's easy access to the cloud and when out with your laptop all you need is an internet connection and you're in.
