I'm new to solidwoks API environment (and to solidworks in general), I would like to automate some processes by extract information about a part using the SLDPRT file, is is possible to systematically read this file?
If you mean writing a VB program to extract geometric data directly from the model without running SolidWorks in the foreground or background, then no. If you want to extract things like custom properties, names of configurations, or some of the component interrelationships between parts/drawings/assemblies then yes, it's possible using the Document Manager API.
Thanks for your response Josh. It seems that I must request a license key from the customer portal to use it.Do you happen to know if there's any tutorial available on how to use the Document Manager API. All I have been able to find is a simple SolidWorks API tutorial under SolidWorks Tutorials > All SOLIDWORKS Tutorials > SolidWorks API which didnt really explain anything about what you are talking about.Thanks.
Best bet is to Google what you need. That being said there is an API help section for Doc Manager which tells you all the Interfaces and methods. There are examples found within most of the methods which might help.

Of course, I'm trying to learn about this from multiple sources, but I have find it difficult to find something to even getting started with it. Any extra help or guidance is very appreciated.
I wish I could give you more but I myself have just started to dive into doc manager and don't have a whole lot of other references besides going through each interface to see what it does.
