How do I create a surface importing a file with real collected data?

Hi guys, If I want to create a surface in Solidworks starting from a file with real collected data, which kind of file should I import? (So if I have to convert the ones I have I do it before). And eventually how is the iter to develop the surface from these data?

I have some data also in Excel. How does it work?
