Just upgraded to 2018 SP2.
1st annoying bug: When selecting components in a section view the selected surfaces don't highlight.
Maybe there's a checkbox for this somewhere?

No highlight on the clicked surface in sectioned view. it is highlighted in not section view
Do you have the option "Graphics-only section" turned on? If so, try turning that off to see if it gives you what you expect.
Cliff, perhaps this is the issue you are encountering too so please look at that option.
I hope this helps,
Trying to get a grasp on what you are talking about. Can you share a screen shot?
Since you posted this in Modeling and Assemblies, I am assuming that you mean when you are cutting a section view in the 3D assembly (because you said components) and NOT in a drawing.
Also, since you said, "When selecting components", I am also going to assume that you have selected this check box in the section view properties:
At this point, I am lost because when I run the command, I am not sure what you mean by "highlight".
Have you tried the "Keep Cap Color" Check box?
Without "Keep Cap Color" checked:
With "Keep Cap Color" checked:
Is this what you mean?
If not, then please shed more light.
It's hard to screen shot what the problem is.
It is while the assembly is sectioned. No problem with the section results, cap color etc.
After the section is complete, dialog boxes closed, select a surface of model inside the assembly for a distance measurement. Before, that selected surface would light up in the highlight color. Now, nothing, no highlight.
Ahh, thank you for the clarification.
Then this sounds like potentially a graphics card issue.
Please read this:
Why am I getting weird graphics issues?
Nvidia Quadro P4000, on list of approved hardware. So the graphics card excuse isn't acceptable.
However, to be sure we just updated the driver. Problem remains.
After playing a bit more I see that I can select the sectioned surface of a part and it will highlight. In the past this wasn't possible. It would seem that something about highlighting selections has been inverted in this version.
Another quirk: In the screen shot here I've selected a non sectioned surface of the large flanged part. And it appears to be showing a mating surface in the next level assembly. That assembly isn't active and the location is out of place.
Solidquirks never fails to live up to my expectations.
Took a while to find that check box, I've never used it before. I sure wish new releases would not change default behaviors.

That option has been there since SOLIDWORKS 2015 has per this help topic:

The setting defaults to off in each of the releases since the option has existed. So, perhaps you inadvertently changed it at some point?
Thank you !
i have the same problem since installing SW2018 but i can not solve it with your solution.
I can open the same assembly in SW2017 and SW2018 and in 2017 the surface will be highlighted when clicked but not in 2018 even when using exactly the same options in section view.
In both cases the "Graphics-only section" is not checked.
Only surfaces which do not cross the section can be highlighted.
This behavior started only after upgrading to SW2018 which was done about a week before.
Are there other options which influence the section view and have changed in 2018 ?
Gerhard, did you ever find the source of this quirk?
I just started experiencing the same thing (or at least I just noticed it). Like you wrote, sectioned faces can't be highlighted. I've found the issue extends to any face on a part that passes through the section plane. The rest of the parts are fine but clicking on a face, sectioned or not, will not highlight that face if the part passes through the plane. The "graphics-only" box is not checked. Good graphics card. Only started seeing the problem since updating to 2018, which we did recently. To make matters more frustrating, it's an intermittent problem.
Anyway, just thought I'd share my observations and ask if anyone knows a solution. -Lee
This is still happening and I still don't know what causes it. But I noticed that if it is happening and I use the view menu to unsection and resection (rather than the section view button at center top) the problem ceases.
I have another graphics bug that has just started (with 2018) that I'll post elsewhere but briefly: when I'm opening an assembly and sw is going through the machinations of loading the files, if I touch my 3d mouse the assembly disappears and nothing seems to make it visible again- except closing and reopening the assembly. Frustrating.
I am also having this issue, it's making working with assemblies unbearably frustrating.
