Does anyone have an example of setting a variable in PDM using VBA?

I have a macro that I am running thru excel.  It searches the PDM vault for a part number, checks out the file.  Now I want to be able to set Variables.  I am having trouble finding examples.  Any help is appreciated.  Thanks
