Whoops! I put the entire question in the title. Anyways...I am a new 2018 user and cannot figure out how to pipe in the model. I have sketch lines in the model but the structural member icon is still grayed out.
Screenshot would help us help you. I believe that you have not exited the sketch. If you are still editing a sketch, many other feature tools will be unavailable to you. See important cue icons at upper right of field. See also status bar at bottom.
I apologize if this does not come in clearly.
you are in an Assembly, add a Part first and add the members there
Holy cow! You're right! Let me bother you just once more if I may. Is there a way of copying my sketch layout from the assembly drawing to the part drawing as I don't want to go through all of the sectioning and angling again?
Editing New part, create a 3D Sketch. Select all entities in other sketch. Use Convert Entities command. New 3D Sketch within part is then driven, and changes to the other one will carry through.
This is not best workflow, unless it is intentional. IMHO, a defined and driving 3D Sketch belongs within the weldment component part. For now, this may not matter. Keep in mind for next time.
Are you trying to use Weldment, do you have the Library set up properly?
Regarding weldment, yes. As far as the library goes, I have not done anything with the library. I was previously able to insert material via the weldment options and did not have any issue as it had the profiles that I required. But now the icon remains grayed out and I am not in sketch.
like i stated before, in order to add members you need to be in a Part not Assy.
insert a new Part, edit Part, add members
Got it. CTRL C works (face palm). Thanks for your response.
is it a 2D sketch?
yes you can copy the sketch, ctrl+C the sketch, select the Plane in the Part file you want the Sketch and ctrl+V
it is under defined, minus symbol
