I started a assembly and I forgot to add properties like "supplier" or "Location" to my parts. My question is possible to apply these properties to parts selected?
Thanks in advanced!
The part properties must be added while in each part's file.
If you want to be in your assembly as a reference for which part needs the added properties, right click each part and select edit component.
Make the changes in the part and then save and return to the assembly.
Repeat until all of your parts are modified.
Also, look into Property Tab Builder for your part files so you can set up a standard properties interface which make may things easier to remember and make consistency better.
I hope this helps.
Yes, you can apply those properties to the Parts from the Assembly, as long as one of the Parts has the desired property assigned. Insert a BOM in the Assembly. Insert columns for the properties you need to edit. Double-click in a blank cell. You'll get this message:
Choose "Keep Link". Now you can add the desired text and it will feed back to the Part file. Repeat as needed. By the way, I learned this at a class at my VAR. I'm not smart enough to have figured it out myself.
If you use BOM's then simply export the BOM to excel. Make the changes in excel and copy & paste the full cell range from excel to the SW BOM. That's the fastest way. SW will push the info back to the parts properties if the column is linked to it.
I've found with the Custom Properties Tab pinned open, you can select parts within an assembly and it will bring up the files properties. I've not consciously tried applying properties to the parts in this manner though. I like to go to the part file. But you could give it a go.
Here's a thread that seems to agree that would work.
