I thought that is what 3d interconnect was for, but it never worked for me. I was expecting to see the feature tree and sketches ect.

This plug-in has an option to import CATIA V5 files with some features, but not all of them will be recognized because it is impossible.
But in some case, it can be satisfactory. It depends on the complexity of your models, and the degree of perfection that you are looking for.
You can get a trial license to see if it fits your needs by registering on Datakit website.
There is no way to import models across platforms (catia to SolidWorks, etc) and maintain the feature tree.
If you can, save the catia file as IGES, STP, or STEP file. The open this with SolidWorks. SolidWorks will ask you if you want to use feature recognition, say yes. This will get you as close to the result you are looking for as possible. If you just import a model file (igs, stp, etc.) without using feature recognition you will not have as much control over the model as you get with standard SolidWorks features. There are some ways to modify the model using direct editing features but they are pretty limited.
