Hello everyone. I'm having some issues working with CAM tool, specifically with chamfers. I need to mechanize a square part and make a chamfer on its perimeter, but all the operations has to be done with only one tool, a DRILL MILL Diam. 3mm x 45º. The thing is that the program don't allows me to make a chamfer with a drill tool, despite all the parameters are adequate. I know that is weird trying to make all the operations with only one tool, but is what we have. Anyone knows if this is posible? Or to countersinking operations i need its correct tool instead of a drill?

I've tried editing the tool like you are talknig about, it does work the only issue i had was that if any errors, such as a typo, or employee error; you lose a bit and material, it was just easier to lie to the machine.

you could lie to the CNC and just pause the program, put a blank collet in the CNC and put the tool in your tool holder, then the machine will swap it out not knowing the tool is the same. just be sure to calibrate the tool for each station

Yes, i tought the same. But, i wanted to know if there is a chance to make an operation with another tool. It also occurred to me that i can edit a chamfer tool to make it exactly the same than the drill tool...The program is so new that there is Little information of what are its capabilities and limitations, and the few tutorials i saw are basic stuff.

Could you create a dummy hole in the model in the position whereby the countersink drill would then create the correct chamfer?

I solve the problem! Apparently the program don't take the chamfers automatically, you have to create the operation through a contouring, and adding the chamfer to it. And as Sebastyon Champion said, it is easier to fool the machine, and when it requests the other tool, you press continue.Virtually is the same tool, because has the same properties, just the program put a label on when you want to drill or make a chamfer. I just took a chamfer tool, and i edit the tool to make it just like the other one, and works perfectly on papers (let's see when is on the CNC).

A tapered flat endmill can do both operations chamfer and contour

As will a Counter sink tool. But the tapered endmill would be the way to go as that is essentially what a drill mill is... in essence.
