I can override this with a standard hole wizard feature, but the advanced hole feature seems to lock out this field. Is there a way to edit this from within the drawing file?
Never noticed that when I tested advanced hole (been to preoccupied trying to get the call out to match company's standard). I do not see any way to do want you want. Looks like it is time to contact the VAR.
SW2018: There is a workaround of sorts - in the dimension property manager, even though the callout string is not editable there, you can still uncheck the Number of Instances box down in the symbol library (it's a bolded "2X"), and the <num_inst> code will disappear from the string, then in the advanced hole property manager, manually type in the number of instances that you need in the callout string.
In my opinion it's a valid workaround; I just would like it to be on the first line instead of being the first line.
agreed - the Advanced Hole callout feature is a bit clumsy and needs some development work
I may have misunderstood your comment - if the Number of Instances is added to the dimension text box on the Dimension Property Manager, then it would be the first line in the callout. However, toggling a custom callout in the Advanced Hole Property manager would allow you to edit the callout and add the number of instances anywhere within the callout, including on the first line.
Below is what I get when I override the value. I would not want to override it in the Advanced Hole Property Manager because I plan for it to be a favorite (meaning I would only use it as a last resort).
