Hello,
When I create a new drawing from a part the drawing opens with the sheet format in edit mode. Is there a way to default Solidworks to not do that?
Thank you,
Katie

Hello Glenn,
I have save the drawing template a few times to verify that it was not in "Edit Sheet Format" mode. Upon trying to open a drawing again, it still opens with edit sheet format active.
It does not happen when I start a new drawings from the "New Document function. It only occurs when I use "Make Drawing from Part."
Thank you,
Katie
That's weird, but no weirder than other stuff I've seen (some of it today, in fact). To be honest, I never use that workflow. Instead, with the model open I just go to the New Document window where I choose my template, and then the model is already selected to start the drawing. In the meantime you might want to try that workflow instead. Hopefully someone else will have some ideas, but if not you might want to get your VAR involved to see if they can help.
Glenn,
Thank you for attempting. Glad I am not the only one with weird issues (today).
Thank you again,
Katie
Katie welcome to the forums, we've all experienced really weird things happen in SOLIDWORKS, usually that can't be duplicated! At least you can duplicate your issue I know, that's no help...
Katie,
I noticed this as well an jus thought that it was some setting some where. After going back and checking our templates some opened with the edit sheet format active and some didn't.
After several iterations I found that if the template is saved using the save sheet format choice in the file pull down menu it automatically opens the edit sheet format.
If, on the other hand you "Save As" and select drawing templates it does not automatically open the edit sheet format.
Another bonus, it also allows you to pre populate the drawing with a revision block which is actively connected in the title block.
Hope this help.
Alan
Alan,
When I use the "Save As" method I do not see the option to save as a sheet format. I can only do a "Save As" for a drawing template.
Thank you,
Katie
Alan,
I'm afraid I don't understand that. As far as I know, the only way to save a drawing template is with Save as...Drawing Template, and the only to save a sheet format (which is a distinctly different file type, see What's the difference between a sheet format and drawing template?) is at File > Save sheet format. I've saved my sheet formats and drawing templates many times, and have never had a new drawing open in "Edit sheet format" mode.
Hello,
All I did not find a solution to this problem. I did find a work around.
My old drawing template and sheet format did not have this issue. So I simply copied the old template and format, made my changes, and saved them. The drawings no longer open in "Edit Sheet Format."
Not sure this is quite a solution but I appreciate your help.
Thank you,
Katie
Hello Katie,
Welcome to the forum. I've never heard of that, but is there any chance the drawing was in "Edit Sheet Format" mode when the drawing template was last saved? Does it happen when you start a new drawing from the "New Document" function, or just when doing it by "Make Drawing from Part"?
