I am trying to do a drawing and every other time I go to save my work (ctrl S) SWX will crash. Is there anything I can do about this.
I am using 2018.
Are you trying to get it to crash every time, instead of every other time? Just kidding...
I think we'd need more information to be of help. Can you Pack and Go your drawing and upload it? If it is proprietary, you can send it to your VAR and get them to look at it. It is going to be very hard for anyone to give you any help on this without a lot more information.
VAR is Value Added Reseller. They are the people you bought SW from. If you are paying the yearly fee for SW, you also get tech support from the VAR you purchased SW from.
What Matt Peneguy said. Also please include your system specs, including graphics card info.
Given that you are attempting to save your document it is possible that where you are storing them is causing you some issue. Where do you store/accessing your CAD data from when working in it? Are they on a network drive, external drive, flash drive, or in a local drive folder managed by a cloud storage service (like Dropbox)?
They are stored in the computers hard drive.
Can you send attach a .NFO file of your system? To make a .NFO file go to the Windows Start menu, run a search for “msinfo32.exe”, then open that utility; in the utility go to ‘File’, ‘Save’ to save out a .NFO file of any name to send over.
Here is the NFO file.
I don't see an attached file. You will need to change into "Use advanced editor" mode in your post to attach files to it
Let me try this again.
It won't let me attach it.
Just guessing here, but is the file size greater than 25MB?
It's 13 MB.
Can you stick it into Dropbox and post a link instead?
Where is the dropbox?
Sorry, but all I know how to do is use computers. I leave it to other people to fix.
Dropbox (www.dropbox.com) is a software used to share files across the internet. You may want to hop over there, make an account, upload this file there, then use it to share a download link with us.
Graphics card id a AMD FirePro W5000
What system information I can find is Intel Xeon CPU E5-1620 v2 @3.70Ghz, 16 GB RAM, 64-bit operating system. Running Windows 7.
I clarified what the VAR is, but guess what, you got an even better resource posting here. LIN SHAODUN is a SW employee. I suggest you post the files in %localappdata%/solidworks/cxpa as he asked. You don't often get help directly from a SW employee. I strongly suggest you take advantage of his offer to help.
You have to go step by step to find out the error. First check with the hard ware requirement for SWX 2018 then only you can proceed.
Thank you all for the help.
Last Wednesday my computer started making strange sounds and then opened the CD-ROM drive. Since then Solidworks has been working fine.
