A simple emboss on a flat sheet, then go to flatten. and nothing happens. It leaves the emboss in place.
Flatten will only flatten bends, not forming tools.

Before (button not pressed)
After (flat pattern select) and nothing....
how deep are you going with your forming?
Is that the problem? Does it usually flatten out if more shallow?
I've had it not flatten because of depth, try a shallow depth and see if that works.
all it does is remaove the Emboss, for a 2d view
Well I have also tried unfold. So for now I have two different configurations. And that's not ideal, but there is no other choice.
What a useless feature.
That's debatable I guess. The flatten feature and unfold feature are designed for bends that would be created by a press-brake. There are other add-ons you can get to flatten more complex features.
Hello Bjorn and everyone.
Since this is about forming tool, I have another question that I would like to ask.
How do I tell to the manufacturer the sizing and the shape of the forming tool?
Does it by just pulling the dimension of the forming tool from the flat pattern/unflatten of the part that has the forming tool?
In the first instance, it is good to know what forming tools you have available and utilise these where possible.
Where a custom tool is required you should ask your fabricator. Some can make the tool in-house from the 3D files of the sheet metal you have provided. If they have the tool made by a third party you may need to send them a 3D of the forming tool you created.
There is principal difference between these two kinds of deformation, bending and forming, if you need flat pattern, just suppress forming feature in flat pattern configuration
I know I'm a year and a half late to the party but were you looking for solidworks to undo the forming tool changes to see what you'd need before applying a forming tool?
