Re: weld beads, can they be attached to sketches?
Elmar Klammer Feb 16, 2018 10:13 AM (in response to Jim Steinmeyer)Hi Jim,
Cruising for information is not the only thing you will do. Next comes the hurt for using weld beads & fillet beads.
I would be interest to know what makes you use them in the first place. Or any other user that has good experience with them.
Please share your experience & the solution applied.
Thanks,
Elmar

Jim Steinmeyer Feb 16, 2018 10:35 AM (in response to Elmar Klammer)I would expect that my experience has been similar to yours from your statement. Going all the way back to 2000 I have taken a stick and poked at weld beads hoping that someday they will be usable. So far that has not been the case. I keep hoping though.
As far as why, like I said, most of our welders can't read weld symbols anyway. I know, I know, education is valuable, but we don't seem to believe that around here.

Jim,, This was done at the part level. Do you need to do it in an assembly?.. You can see the sketches that the bead is attached to. This is a slot and tab. I just ran the bead the entire length.
Here is what I working on. I could probably do it in the parts but I would have to be referring back to the assembly frequently to get it right. Unless I created a sketch on the back sheet, hum that presents an idea....
How did you select the sketch? I assumed it would be by using Weld Path but when I select that in the manager the sketch disapears and selecting in the tree does nothing.

Re: weld beads, can they be attached to sketches?
Dennis Bacon Feb 16, 2018 11:19 AM (in response to Jim Steinmeyer)I don't think that's it Jim. What I did above was at the assembly level but like I said, if you have more than one path per sketch it doesn't seem to want to select it.

Ah, I missed that tag at the bottom. That would be it. It also makes this a whole more time consuming.
Thank you for your input.

Create your main (skeleton) weld path sketch.
Then create a sketch and convert entities for the first path
Then create a sketch and convert entities for the second path
Then create a sketch and convert entities for the third path
repeat....
I know it is still time consuming....but it might sane you some time editing it in the future.

Jim Steinmeyer Feb 16, 2018 3:39 PM (in response to Dan Pihlaja)Yes that is how I would do it too.

Re: weld beads, can they be attached to sketches?
David Matula Feb 16, 2018 4:20 PM (in response to Jim Steinmeyer)why not just make a simple model of a fillet weld. add a few configurations for different lengths and them mate that weld bead part in the assembly and then use a linear pattern to make it go the length that you are looking for. For a skip weld you should be able to skip instances of the pattern.

Jim Steinmeyer Feb 16, 2018 4:23 PM (in response to David Matula)You know, that might be the best and fastest way to make this mess work.
If you ain't cheating you ain't trying.
