    measure not enabled edrawings

    Charlie Payne

I'm trying to save a file in eDrawings with the measure feature enabled but I'm not able to do so. I looked at the export settings and the "Okay to measure this eDrawings file" box is checked. The measure tool in the eDrawings file is still greyed out. I have also tried saving as an edrawings file but the save as dialogue does not have the "options" button. I've recently upgraded to 2018 versions of Solidworks and eDrawings. I noticed this posting which seemed to be resolved with SP 1.0:

I'm currently running SP 1.0 though. Any ideas? Anyone else experiencing this? Thanks

I have this same exact problem. I totally uninstalled Solidworks completely including registry and reinstalled with SP 1.0 and the measure tool is still grayed out.

Another issue is when I do a "save as" to Edrawings the options box and password box are no longer below the file name like they were in my 2017 version.

The last issue that I have is I can longer save multiple configurations into one Edrawing file. A dialog box used to pop up and ask me which configurations I would like to save and now it just saves the current configuration.

2018 SP 1. This is what I get for the dialog box.(Definitely changed some) Make sure your e-drawings version has the professional license key on it in order to measure the -edrawings.

If it is not a professional seat there is no measure option. learned that several versions ago.

License key if needed to temporarily get you there.

                Paul,

I have never seen that dialog box on my 2018 version. Are you running Solidworks Professional?

( I am currently testing the 2018 version before we switch all the employees from 2017 )

We currently run 2017 at work and I have never had an issue with the measure tool. I have at least 10 computers in the shop that run the free version of Edrawings that can all measure currently when I make the Edrawing from Solidworks 2017.

Sorry for the late response we have been iced in up here. No I am running standard on Solidworks. The box showed up like that the second time we saved an e-drawing, the first time there was no dialog box at all. It was kind of weird. Then this dialog box showed up.

BTW we save e-drawings in the following method:

Save as>e-drawing. Just wanted to make it clear that this is not publish to e-drawings, as I have never used that option for saving them.

Last Night I installed the professional license key like Paul suggested and everything now works like it should. My question is shouldn't we receive Edrawings professional with the purchase of Solidworks.

There are two things that are required in order to measure an eDrawing (using SW products):

                    1. You need to be using eDrawings Professional. The free version of eDrawings does not allow measurements.
                    2. When the eDrawing was saved, the option "Okay to measure this eDrawings file" must have been checked. This is found in the options menu of the save dialog. Some suppliers will un-check these types of options before providing models in order to protect their IP.

eDrawings Professional is included as part of the SW Professional subscription, but is not included with SW Standard.

I am running Solidworks Standard and have been for a while. We've always been able to enable measuring for the free edrawings viewer. I also have older edrawings files that were saved with measuring enabled that still work. I asked our VAR about this and he told me it is a known issue that would be corrected in SP2.0.

I am not getting the same dialog box that you are getting, Paul. This is what my dialog box looks like when I do save as>edrawing. Am I missing something?

This is what I see here as well. The dialog box I was showing earlier is the post save as dialog box that shows up in the Solidworks window.
