I can't for the life of me select anything that will insert a weld bead between this rectangular tubing and this angle iron. Anyone figure it out?

Try the smart selection tool inside the weld bead dialog. Just drag over the edge and it will select it.

It's a bale spike frame for a pickup. No drawings here. LOL

Just a picture stolen from the interwebz. Most are designed like this or close to it. It slides in a hooks over the gooseneck ball in multiple fashions. Each is a tad different, but all the same basic concept.
I'll probably gusset it, but all the force is straight, there shouldn't be any roll to it unless crossing uneven ground.
