Creating a new assembly WITHOUT updating all of the component's earlier versions of SolidWorks...

How can I create a new assembly, (created from an existing assembly), without affecting all of the components' versions of SolidWorks that are in that assembly? I mean, when doing a SaveAs, a dialog boxes show up asking if I want to update every single component in that assembly to the latest version. I do not want to check all of those out and update them. Or is there an easier way that has minimal impact to checking out, and then checking in all of the components in an assembly? It just seems like it would be very time consuming, and could drive revisions to the components... And yes, we are using EPDM.

Any help or ideas are appreciated! Thanks!
