Could not obtain license for 09 but can for 08???

We loaded the new 2009 SNL file (downloaded 1/31/09) and it supports 2008 just fine. However when attempting to launch SW2009SP1.0 I get the "Could not obtain a license..." error. I did confirm the server is running the new license file. Any thoughts as to why I can't run 2009? Perhaps I need to update the License manager? Not sure of the License Manager version at the moment...will have to check with IS

The license manager needs to be '09 to run the '09 license.

  I will check and see what version of the license manager we are running. I find it interesting that an older version of the license manager (2008) would even run a license file that would be considered "future" (i.e 2009).

    Just ask your IT if they uninstalled the license manager first, then installed the license manager on the 2009 DVD.
    
    The license file is just text.
    Basically, it tells the license manager that you can run any version of SW up to 2009.
    Throw a SW2003 disk in and it will allow it to run.

  Jeff, will the '09 License Manager (SNL) also run '08 and earlier versions of solidworks?
  Or does there need to be different versions for each release you are running?

Yes, the 09 license manager can manage earlier versions.

  A STRONG word of warning... If you're running EPDM 09 don't forget to backup it's registry info before upgrading the license manager. We just went from 08 to 09. EPDM 09SP2 went first, and worked just fine. Then loaded SW09 and updated the license file. The license manger worked fine (don't know if it was 08 or 09 from the EPDM upgrade) but it took the SW09 file and even let SW08 users still run. However, the SW09 users were out of luck. So then we loaded the new license manager.. it killed the registry keys for EPDM 09. This was an earlier problem and I thought since they sync'ed the versions (between EPDM and SW) it wouldn't happen to us AGAIN.. thank goodness for backups.. imported the EPDM09 keys and it's ALL working now..
