What problems would arise if different co-workers used different planes to define assembly files?

Some projects at my company have used the Z axis as being the shaft axis and others have used the X axis for the shaft center.

Shouldn't every designer/engineer have the same idea of which axis should be defined for the shaft on every solidworks assembly file?


Is there any reason why this should not matter? I'm very curious as to the responses and ideas for this.
