I accidentally clicked my default to save import assemblies as virtual components instead of external components and cannot figure out how to change back. How do I switch it back? I am new to 2018 and just upgraded from 2015
I rarely deal with imported models, but if you right-click on the virtual parts in the Assembly isn't there an option to make them independent Parts?
Yes, I am doing that now but initially there was a prompt box when saving that came up offering the choice to make virtual or external and check mark to not show again. Of course I checked it wrong.
I am not even sure that is an option.
I guess that I don't understand. When I import a STP file that comes in as an assembly, then when I try to save that assembly, it then asks me this question:
If I click Cancel, then nothing happens and the save doesn't happen. If I click Save All, then it saves each component in the same folder as the assembly document.
I don't even have an option to make it virtual unless I purposefully do it by RMB on each component and making it virtual.
That is what I expecting to see also. Unfortunately I can't show you a clip of the prompt I was getting because I check marked the "Don't show again" box.
You can go in the Message/errors/warnings in options and uncheck the message you said to not show again. It'll prompt you the next time.
Is that this option?
I tried that also but didn't work.
My problem stems from when I open up a .stp file that's an assembly the components seem to be already in a virtual state. There is an option to right click on the sub-assembly icon and click on dissolve feature? Plus in my feature tree, its generating a sub-assembly inside of a top level assembly when I should only have one assembly. I'm not sure if this might be a template issue?
In 2015, I used to just open/import a .stp assembly file and save it as a sw assembly with components in one click. Nothing virtual.
Can you post the file here (see How can I attach a file to a forum post?)? As I said above, I rarely work with imported models, but I'm sure someone will be able to help.
When I click on the .stp file to open, the first thing that pops up is my assembly template which I have to click ok to move forward. This is what I get after that. Notice the sub assembly inside the top level. I should only be seeing a single assembly icon so somehow it is creating another assembly and putting the import inside of it. Also notice the left arrow on the sub assembly icon and subsequent components inside the sub.
I should be able to open the stp file and save directly as a sw assembly and components.
thanks for the help.
I'm still using SW2017, so I can't open the file, but as I said above I'm sure someone will be able to help.
Go to System Options then click on import. The very first check box, "Enable 3D Interconnect" needs to be unchecked.
Tech support explained to me that it directly reads the stp. file instead of importing all components.
Sorry so late, we just upgraded to 2018 and I had the same problem.
