When upgrading the SP from 0.1 to 1.0, I wish to know whether it is necessary to uninstall existing SWX.
I don't have it enabled. So, I can't show you. It should be at the bottom right of your screen in the tray:
The SWX icon you see in my tray is the SWX resource monitor, but you should have the Background downloader there. Just right-click on the icon and disable it. At least that's the way I thought it worked.
Uninstall is more recommended when you upgrade versions like 2015->2016 etc.
When I installed SP1.0 while keeping SWX 2018, SP 0.1 control panel shows differences.
this is actually correct, it's not SP0.1 it's SP1 but with the 0 in front, like they could have SP15 etc
this is mine service pack 2:
Even though I have installed SP1.0 this window always pop-ups.
We immediately disable the background downloader upon Solidworks installation. We don't need it, nor do we want it here.
Where can find background down loader?
How to make sure whether it is enabled or disabled?
I found it, but there is a problem, no reminder in the future. I enabled "Automatically Check for Updates".
Do you need updates? Do you really want the absolutely latest from Solidworks the 2nd it is released? I don't....especially since I can't anyway, as IT determines what releases we are on (hopefully with input from us designers).
Updating (SP0.1 to SP1.0) was done as like upgrading. That means downloading the SWX 2018 SP1.0 and installing.
No, you do not need to uninstall.
I was a little bit confused the title before reading your post
Can you change to one word "upgrading" for people searching this topic
I think it should be "updating"
You're "upgrading" to a newer version?
My system already has SWX 2018 SP 0.1 I want to update it to SP 1.0. Here only SP is the question.
I would also recommend disabling on all computers with SW if you are an admin. I do this with all my installs, otherwise I get inquiries from people who do not like it or others who think they should be upgraded the instant they see it.
