Missing keyways on cogs when I re open file and dismantle gearbox. Can anyone help me with this issue please
Did your cogs ever have keyways? If you had added them did you remember to save before closing? Can you upload your gearbox and all the parts that go with it?
Hi Solid Air thank you for your reply yes all cogs had key ways, then I construct my gearbox then save and when I open the file and deconstruct the cogs revert back to stock missing key ways.
Did you save the cogs some place else and not save your assembly? In that case, your assembly would be looking at old cogs. Very difficult to answer this question with limited information. Can you upload your gearbox assembly and all it components?
Here is an image of the gearbox all Key ways have gone. When I save Gear box and reload key ways are gone. I even did a test on a simple cog and shaft and the same happened.
Just thinking out loud here but were the cogs built by you or imported from somewhere else?
As Solid Air has mentioned, it would really help if you could attach the assembly (with parts) so that further investigation can be done.
I created the gears in an assembly from the solidworks tool box, then configured the assembly and added in the key slots. This problem only showed up after I used MBD to tolerance all the parts. However I don't think that this should matter. I got the gears from the ISO tool box folder. I will upload my file 2 mins
Here is the file. I really appreciate the help
Please note this file does not contain assembly I will load that now
This is the new file that should contain the assembly
I think I do not understand your question...
Are these the keyways you are looking for?
The features were suppressed in the feature manager tree
Yes all my cogs had these key ways and gearbox is all complete. Everything is mated correctly also. So I save my file then when I reload and deconstruct gearbox all cogs have lost the keyways. Thanks for looking anyway.
Toolbox components are READ ONLY. That is why, when you open the part and manually unsuppress the Keyway feature, that change is NOT SAVED.
Instead, what you need to do is right-click on the toolbox part (in the assembly) and select "Edit Toolbox Component".
Here you can choose the keyway option you want (None, Keyway1 or Keyway2).
Now, when you go back to the assembly, that Keyway feature has been unsuppressed.
Now you can save your assembly. Then the keyway will be there when you re-open the assembly.
When using Toolbox components, think of them as being POINTERS to the read-only folder. Thus your assembly will remember the options you picked when you configured the toolbox part. Then it will reuse those options each time it opens the assembly.
